Our members represent various regions of the United States, along with our Young Alumni Representatives who represent graduates of the last two years.
Board members are actively engaged in building a strong sense of community among our alumni by connecting alumni with the College and each other. They serve as representatives of, and ambassadors for, the College and are able to effectively communicate the strategic plan of the College to others. Our alumni board provides input on alumni programs and services and is involved in facilitating and supporting on campus, local, and regional alumni events. The board supports efforts to refer and increase yield for prospective students to bring the best and the brightest students to experience the unique and transformative education at The College of Idaho. We aim to support college-sponsored networking events and career fairs as well as mentorship and internship programs to support these high-impact practices. Future plans may include community service projects.

I graduated from the College in 1999 with majors in English and Political Science and an intent to be a lawyer. I went to work at Micron Technology, Inc and spend the next decade working in HR instead. I built my career as a business and recruiting analyst before retiring to be a stay-at-home mom to Callie and Michael. To balance the analytical side developed at the College, I have been an Independent Demonstrator for Stampin' Up! since 2003 and teach crafting and scrap booking classes to adults and children. I am currently a Professional Reader for several publishing houses and help provide feedback and reviews on advanced copy manuscripts to the authors and publishers. My world is full of creative chaos between my job, my family, and my musical engineer of a husband, Conlyn ('00).
When I look at my time at the College, it is the time I became a person. It taught me HOW to think, not WHAT to think. I found what I was interested in for myself, developed close relationships with my faculty mentors that still exist today, made a tight knit group of friends that are still family, and made a difference in my community by helping build bridges and buildings. Being a graduate of The College of Idaho is something special. It is an experience, a sliver of time where you define the type of person you want to be based on what you are curious about and what you are willing to invest. My College of Idaho experience gave me my mind and my Village and I am grateful every day.

My first experience with The College of Idaho was when my mom, Kelly Hall Sonnichsen (’88) attended when I was a child, and she commuted from Emmett to Caldwell daily to finish her degree. Whenever my family visited the campus for concerts and other events while I was growing up, I knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps and become a Yote myself. Without a doubt, the best four years of my life were spent at The College of Idaho. I graduated with a double major in Politics & Economics, and History in 2004, and used the writing and critical thinking skills in law school at the University of Idaho, and in my legal career. The hours I spent on the road and in practice with the Howlin’ Yotes Speech and Debate Team have helped me communicate effectively in the courtroom, my legal writing, and in negotiating agreements. Also, the leadership skills I learned while I was a member of Sigma Chi taught me management skills that I use every day while I manage a diverse group of lawyers and non-lawyers across the United States.
I met my college sweetheart, Jennifer Kroll Sonnichsen (2005) in my junior year, and we have lived in Montana for the past ten years with our two daughters, Charlotte and Genevieve. Since the football program was reinstated, we host tailgates at games against Montana Tech in Butte, University of Montana Western in Dillon, and Carroll College in Helena, and would love to see more Yote fans at the games! I will be working on developing more programs for my district during my term, and look forward to meeting - and reconnecting - with alumni across Region 6.
